Desperately Seeking Help for Learning French?

By Angela Nomins

So you want to learn French? There are a lot of different ways that you can learn a new language. Each person learns differently so it might take you a while to find the technique that works best for you. You might be someone who learns best on your own, from resources that you track down yourself.

Listening to audio courses may be what you react to best when it comes to learning a language. Perhaps you are someone who learns most easily from books and teachers. The methods available comes in many formats and target different processes. This is actually a good thing because once you identify your learning style you can choose the technique that works best.

Flashcards are very powerful. Most people trying to learn a new language write off flashcards because they are low-tech. In this high-tech age why would we use something as simple as flashcards? The reason that people still use flash cards is because they work! Practicing your vocabulary is the best way to memorize basic words.

Nothing else on the market is as convenient as flashcards; take them to any place and use them at any time. Flashcards can be used in a fun way with children because they will be testing the grownup; or you can practice with anyone who have zero knowledge of the language. In the end, there aren't many methods that can match the convenience and effectiveness of flashcards.

Learn to feel comfortable with feeling uncomfortable. When you start taking classes to learn a new language it is a good idea to remind yourself that everybody else there is in the same position that you are in. If you make pronunciation mistakes, or verb tense errors, no will laugh at you.

A classroom is a great place to learn because you will have someone on hand to make sure that you are learning things correctly and that you aren't learning incorrect things. Some people find classroom learning relaxing because they are surrounded by other people who are trying to learn the same thing and because it is a safe way to try out their new language skills without worrying about offending anybody.

This is a tried and true excellent method to learn any language, total immersion with a fluent population. You'll also be able to make a quick escape, too, if necessary. Your French will be even better simply because you'll be speaking with native users. There is a tremendous difference between textbook and classroom French and the fluent language as spoken by native speakers. This kind of experience will naturally let you feel more at home and at ease if you travel to a French speaking nation. Learning a new language does not have to be difficult.

There are many different techniques you can apply that simplify it and make it more enjoyable. You have to be willing to invest a little time to discover what learning strategy is most effective for you. In many cases, people have to experiment before they discover the technique that really works for them. If this happens to you, there is no reason to be upset. Another thing that often happens is that all the studying you've done one day "clicks" and you realize that you can really speak French well!
