Keeping Your Dear Jewellery Clean

By Bryan Shaw

Owning high class jewellery like Tiffany rings is something to be cherished, there is, however, a similarity to top end jewellery and typical standard jewelry. It's that both get grubby and are prone to scratches.

If you have a Tiffany engagement ring for example the likelihood is you will wear this each day and as a consequence it'll be subject to wear a tear; with this in mind it's really important to keep your expensive jewelry clean.

Due to the unique setting of Tiffany diamond rings they are most at risk of collecting dirt and dust in the space that raises the diamond. You can take it to a specialist jewellery cleaner to remove the debris however doing this on a consistent basis can be pricey. You can get a steam cleaner or a ultrasonic cleaner to get the job done but again these times cost a great deal of money and are probably not required unless you wear lots of jewellery on a consistent basis and have a lot to be cleaned.

Here is a straightforward use and reasonable home method to keep your Tiffany rings clean.

If you apply a drop or two of dishwasher liquid in some tepid water, not too hot, into a little container (make sure it's got a lid on it) the dishwasher liquid should loosen any dirt on the ring. Place your ring into the small container and secure the lid and give it a delicate shake. Let it stand for 2 minutes then gently shake it again, then take out the ring and rinse with hot water. Towel dry the ring, be absolutely sure not to rub it but touch dry it instead. Once the ring is dry place it back on your finger. Try and avoid touching the diamond with your hands as the oils in your skin may have an effect on the shine of the diamond.

If your ring has not been cleaned for some time another technique to get rid of any hard to remove grime especially in the hard to reach places is to wash it with a soft bristled tooth brush. Put the ring into a bowl full of lukewarm water and apply some jewellery cleaner (glass cleaner works just as well if you don't have any). Brush gently under the water till clean. For the best results dry the ring with a soft microfiber material or a flannel, this will stop scratches during the drying process.

Following either of these tips should maintain the appearance of your Tiffany ring however it is probably a smart idea to send it to be professionally cleaned once or more a year.
