Fabulous Ideas For Visits To Hair Salons

By Mandy Gillespie

When it comes to changing up your look, having some ideas for your stylist to work with can help you get what you want. A new look can make you feel confident. Make plans for going to hair salons for changes that involve waxing, bleaching, or a new layered cut.

Choosing a salon will be difficult without real opinions from other customers. Ask family and friends, and look up the salon online to find out more about them. While most places require stylists to have completed beauty school, there are some who have more of a knack for cutting and dying than others.

Always give your stylist clear instructions on what you are looking for. You should avoid telling your stylist to make their own choices when it comes to your hair, unless you fully agree with their suggestion. If you cannot think of what you would like, flip through a magazine first to get some ideas on what kind of styles are fashionable.

Most stylists like having a picture to use as a guide. Bring in a picture of someone who has your desired hairstyle, even if it is a little bit different. Be sure to choose a style on someone whose length and thickness is similar to yours. A style that looks good on someone with thin texture can look awful on someone with thick texture, and vice versa.

Bleaching is a procedure that will need to be performed in a salon only. The stylist will know how to use aluminum foil and expert timing to get even overall color and a perfect shade without too much damage. Bleach is very damaging, but good aftercare products will make it easy to repair and manage.

While it is possible to use dye from a box bought at a convenience store or market, stylists can create highlights and lowlights on the same day to add dimension. They can usually keep the color from going flat. The stylist can also recommend a shampoo that will prevent color fading. Be sure to avoid very dramatic changes of more than a few shades, as these might require the eyebrows to be dyed too.

If you have been satisfied with your new 'do, be sure to tip your stylist. Tip at least five dollars, even if you only went in that day for a 15 dollar eyebrow wax. Usually, you can tip between 10 to 20 percent. Some hair salons have different stylists to wash, dry, and cut your hair, and in this case, it is reasonable to leave one tip and let the salon split it.
