Iconic Men's Leather Jackets

By Jessica Bailey

Leather jackets have been a firm fashion favourite for many years. From the golden age of Hollywood, all the way through to the present day, there has always been room for this iconic style. Here we take a look at some of the most memorable leather jackets in popular culture and why this classic look will never age.

1950's Rebel - James Dean

James Dean was the original rock n' roll rebel and has gone on to inspire many with his effortless Hollywood style. Films such as A Rebel without a Cause are filled with iconic images of Dean in his array of leather jackets, including a classic black jacket and red leather jacket. In 2011, Jennifer Aniston spent $12,000 on a James Dean jacket for her boyfriend Justin Theroux.

Michael Jackson

Thriller, Beat It and Bad are all Michael Jackson videos that feature an iconic leather jacket. The king of pop was famous for his elaborate jackets, many of which have now been sold at auction. Most notably, was the case of the white leather 'Thriller' jacket, which was purchased for $1.8 million. The new owner is said to be planning a tour with the jacket in order to raise money for numerous children's charities.

Trinity - The Matrix

Carrie-Anne Moss was responsible for reviving the leather coat in 1999 after her Matrix character Trinity made it her trademark. The actress suffered a sprained ankle during filming, but refused to tell any of the cast in case she was replaced. Many people also think that Keanu Reeves's jacket was also made of leather, and at first it was. However, after a number of tests, a lighter material was chosen because it allowed the jacket to float and billow in the classic scenes, such as the bullet sequence.
